Martine Miller

Martine's first encounter with the magic of beekeeping began 30 years ago in the rolling hills of North Eastern Pennsylvania. Starting as the keeper of an apiary of 10 hives on a farm provided her with a unique introduction into the spellbinding world of beekeeping. An encounter with a sweet-toothed black bear did not deter her from producing raw and unfiltered honey in the rolling meadows of their farm. Rolled and hand-poured pure beeswax candles augmented the farm's offerings.  Studies at Rutgers University further unveiled the complexity and intelligence of the honeybee and cemented Martine's love for these industrious creatures.

Martine and her husband Nick kept bees in Charleston, SC, where Martine faced a different set of circumstances in raising her honeybees. Upon relocating to mountains of Western North Carolina, Martine has embraced the opportunities of high elevation (3,000 feet) beekeeping. Her son and daughter have embraced her passion and are supporting the efforts of Le Bon Miel Apiary.

Le Bon Miel reflects the French heritage of Martine and her children. Translated as "The Good Honey" the name of the company imparts all that is good about a perfect and very old food cherished over continents.

Martine is a member of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association and the Toe Cane Beekeepers  Association.
